Cyclist Dies In Hospital Days After Austin Car Crash
Police said no charges are expected in the deadly crash.
AUSTIN, TX — Authorities are still investigating an early February crash that took the life of one cyclist in southwestern Austin.
The victim, Samuel Stephens, was riding his bicycle when he stopped in the 3400 block of W. Slaughter Lane just before the crash at 5:11 p.m., Austin Police Department said in a news release on Monday.
When Stephens tried to cross over the north curb line, he struck the right rear quarter panel of a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze.

Police said the man was taken by Austin-Travis County EMS to St. David's South Austin Medical Center, where he died from his injuries three days later.
The driver of the Cruze stayed on scene and cooperated with investigators, police said. No charges are expected in the case.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing. Authorities ask anyone with information to call the department's vehicular homicide unit at (512) 974-6935. Tips can also be submitted using Austin PD, a mobile app available on iPhone and Android.
Police said this crash is the 13th fatal collision of 2021. So far this year, 14 people have died on Austin roadways.
