BRYAN, TEXAS - When Janet Wilkinson passed away earlier this month at nearby Crestview Retirement Community in Bryan, the news did not go unnoticed by her fellow residents or the many employees who go to work each day at the senior living center. Wilkinson, who was known fondly as the “Mother” of Crestview,” served in roles ranging from Director of Nursing to In-service Coordinator before herself becoming a resident.

“She was here from the earliest days of our community,” said Mike Adams, executive director at Crestview. “As was fitting, Janet was here at the end of her life as well.”

One does not come to be known as the “Mother” of any organization without leaving a profound impact on those around her. Residents and employees alike state without hesitation that Crestview simply wouldn’t be Crestview without Wilkinson’s influence as a nursing director, a mentor, a teacher and a compassionate friend.

“Janet was kind, concerned, polite, friendly, always a lady,” said nurse Sandra Love, an LVN at Crestview. “She expected the best from you and did her best to help you achieve.”

Wilkinson trained Love in the mid-1970’s, training that still impacts her to this day.

“She thoroughly enjoyed her calling as a nurse,” she said.

While the community deeply mourns the loss of Janet Wilkinson, all agree that without her, Crestview wouldn’t be the place it is today.

“The compassionate care we provide has its roots in Janet’s life and in her work,” said Adams. “it’s not an overstatement to say without her, we wouldn’t be who we are. She was that special.”
