Pedestrian Dies In Crash On I-35 Near 51st Street In Austin

Officials said the pedestrian was hit and killed by the driver of semi-truck heading northbound on the interstate.

AUSTIN, TX — A person is dead after being struck by a semi-truck on Interstate 35 early Wednesday morning, officials said.

The crash took place around 3:30 a.m. on Interstate 35 near 51st Street, according to the Austin Police Department.

Officials said the pedestrian was hit and killed by the driver of semi-truck heading northbound on the interstate.

The person was attempting to cross the highway and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The person's identity has yet to be released.

The northbound lanes of the interstate were shut down for several hours but reopened at around 6:30 a.m., according to TxDOT Austin.
