Police SWAT Team Called To South Austin

Police are called to 800 block of West Slaughter Lane, where barricaded suspect fired shots before peacefully surrendering.

AUSTIN, TX — A standoff with a resident resulted in gunfire from the barricaded person before the situation ended peacefully on Tuesday, police said.

Police were called to the 800 block of West Slaughter Lane at around 5:20 a.m. as they responded to an unspecified disturbance. After the hours-long standoff concluded when the suspect exited the building without incident, Officer Destiny Silva told reporters the person had fired several shots during the ordeal.

The person was taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation, Silva said, but faces charges as a result of the incident. No injuries were reported.

Nearby residents were evacuated as a safety precaution, but Silva did not specify the number of people affected by the move.
