StarChefs Magazine Announces Austin, San Antonio 'Rising Stars'
Awards recognize up-and-coming chefs, hospitality professionals representing vanguard of the contemporary American dining scene.

AUSTIN, TX — Restaurant industry magazine StarChefs announced its 2017 class of Austin-San Antonio Rising Stars, officials said Thursday.
The awards recognize up-and-coming chefs and hospitality professionals representing the vanguard of the contemporary American dining scene, magazine officials explained. This year, the StarChefs editorial team met with more than 100 chefs, pastry chefs, bartenders, artisans, and sommeliers throughout the two cities.
The award winners will be celebrated at an awards ceremony and walk-around tasting gala in Austin Dec. 13. The event is ticketed and open to the public. Proceeds from the event will benefit Austin Food & Wine Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering awareness and innovation in the Central Texas culinary community.

Since 2002, StarChefs has awarded Rising Stars in 22 different cities and regions across the country, and will celebrate this 59th class of winners at the Austin-San Antonio Rising Stars Awards and Tasting Gala next month. The most recent Austin-San Antonio Rising Stars Awards were held in 2012.
“Austin’s culinary scene is the Wild West, Will Blunt, managing editor of StarChefs, said. "It’s growing as fast and diverse as the city itself with chefs from all over the country moving to town and embracing the hyper-creative, casual, and pretense-free spirit of the city.”

Antoinette Bruno, CEO and editor-in-chief of StarChefs, lauded the San Antonio restaurant scene as well: “San Antonio food and restaurants have energy and heart. The Pearl campus and young restaurant groups from Jason Dady, Chad Carey, Pieter Sypesteyn, and the Bakery Lorraine crew are adding substance and joy to an under-the-radar dining destination."
The rising culinary stars will be feted in an upcoming East Austin gala event. Tickets to the December event can be purchased online. Details below:
