New Suspect Identified In 6th Street Mass Shooting

Authorities will drop charges against both teens linked to Sixth Street shooting as they close in on a new potential suspect.

AUSTIN, TX — The Travis County District Attorney's Office will be dropping charges against two teens linked to the Sixth Street mass shooting on June 12 as authorities pursue a new suspect.

Authorities will drop charges against Jeremiah Roshawn Leland James Tabb, 17, and a 15-year-old juvenile as they close in on a new potential suspect, Interim Police Chief Joseph Chacon said at a Tuesday news conference.

Police said they are seeking a new fugitive suspect who has been identified as De'ondre Jermirris White, 19. A warrant has been issued for White as he faces a murder charge with a $1 million bond.

Chacon said this new development is a result of further interviews by witnesses, search warrants being conducted and video footage of the shooting incident.

Police are seeking the public's help in finding White, who is considered to be at-large, armed and dangerous.

"We ask that you call 911 or call the Crime Stoppers tip line at 512-472-8477," Chacon said. "We ask that if you see him, do not take action yourself. Please, call police."

6th Street mass shooting began as a disagreement, police revealed.

Chacon said the mass shooting on Sixth Street was a result of a disagreement between two groups of individuals from Killeen.

"The shooting incident was a culmination of this disagreement, which began days prior to the shooting and ended with the groups coming into contact with each other on June 12," Chacon said.

Both Tabb and the 15-year-old juvenile, who were previously arrested for the shooting incident, were members of each rival groups, the police chief said.

The two groups then encountered each other on Sixth Street and exchanged words before the shooting, he said. Many had handguns, including Tabb and the juvenile, according to Chacon. Both weapons are in police custody as evidence.

Chacon said police have concluded White is the shooting suspect who struck Kantor and multiple victims. This decision was based on multiple interviews, ballistic evidence and video footage of the incident.

Following the shooting, White and Tabb fled to an apartment and discussed the shooting, Chacon said. Multiple witnesses said they saw White in possession of the gun that killed Kantor, Chacon said.

What Will Happen To The Teen Suspects?

District Attorney José Garza said Tuesday his office will drop charges against Tabb and the 15-year-old juvenile because it is "for the best interest in this prosecution."

"It is in the best interest of this investigation to be able to hold the person who committed this murder and who committed these acts of violence accountable,"Garza said. "Our office has dismissed these charges ...but when the time comes, we will evaluate the totality of the evidence in this case, and if the evidence bears it out, both people will be appropriately charged."

Tabb remained in Travis County Jail Tuesday morning. Tabb was booked on June 14 for a second-degree felony charge of aggravated assault with serious bodily injury. His bond was set at $500,000.

The 15-year-old juvenile was arrested June 12 and booked into Gardner-Bettes Juvenile Detention Facility for deadly conduct, authorities said Thursday.
