Travis County Sheriff's Office Hosts Gun Lock Drive-Thru Event

The Travis County Sheriff's Office will host a gun lock distribution drive-thru event Tuesday to kickoff National Safety Month in June.

AUSTIN, TX — The Travis County Sheriff's Office will host a gun lock distribution drive-thru event Tuesday to kickoff National Safety Month in June.

The office's Community Outreach Unit will host the event from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the county sheriff's office on 5555 Airport Boulevard in Austin.

Deputies will hand out free gun locks and resource materials on gun violence prevention and best practices how to securely storage firearms, officials said.

The goal of the event is to encourage individuals to store firearms responsibly. Authorities said learning proper gun safety is the number one way to help prevent accidents, theft and misuse.
