3rd Houndstooth Coffee Site To Open In East Austin
New coffee shop at 2823 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. scheduled for Feb. 10 opening to feature not just coffee but cocktails.

EAST AUSTIN, TX — Officials at Texas-based Houndstooth Coffee on Tuesday announced plans to open their newest café in the city to be located in East Austin.
The new coffee shop located at 2823 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Ste. 101, is scheduled to open on Saturday, Feb. 10. It's the third in Austin and sixth overall for the brand, with three locations in Dallas. The café will be open Mondays from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesdays through Thursdays from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Fridays through Sundays from 6:30 a.m to 12 a.m., officials said.
The 2,200-square-foot site, a collaboration with award-winning, Dallas-based design firm OFFICIAL, "...embraces the large, naturally lit space while concentrating on the functionality of the Houndstooth Coffee experience," according to company officials. The design is centered around an expansive U-shaped counter that offers traditional seating and custom-made bar seating, maximizing engagement between baristas and their guests, officials described.

As far as its aesthetics, the café features natural finish materials, such as white oak, alder, quartz, and leather, all incorporated throughout the space to balance the building’s bright openness, creating an airy and welcoming interior. Built-in benches along the walls, leather armchairs, and additional counter seating offer flexible options for groups and individuals alike, officials noted. Moreover, the location features a dog-friendly patio along East MLK Jr. Blvd. with additional outdoor seating from RAD furniture, company officials noted.
Taking cues from their other recently opened location in Dallas, on property at sustainable home improvement store TreeHouse, the new café is equipped with a Mavam Espresso machine, an under-counter espresso machine that features a low profile interface, offering guests greater visibility into the drink preparation process and a better platform for barista-to-guest interaction, officials said.

In addition to the Houndstooth Coffee signature menu of coffee, teas, handcrafted espresso beverages, and a selection of beers and wines, the East Austin café is the first to offer a full bar and craft cocktails. With tasting notes of coffee and tea, the cocktails are inspired by those found at Houndstooth’s sister cocktail and spirits den, Jettison, attached to the Sylvan | Thirty cafe in Dallas and best known for its emphasis on sherries and mezcals, according to a press advisory.
Featured cocktails at the East Austin café include Jettison favorites such as the Red Headed Oaxacan, a smoky agave version of a Penicillin with reposado, mezcal, ginger honey, lemon, and a spray of Bowmore 12 Year Old Scotch Whisky, and the Earl’d Fashion’d with bonded bourbon, orange and Angostura bitters, and maple syrup smoked with Earl Grey tea.
“We’re continually looking for ways to expand the beverage conversation as our brand evolves and grows,” Paul Henry, general manager at Houndstooth Coffee, said in a prepared statement. “With this café, we’re excited to bridge the divide between morning and night for our guests and continue our mission to provide delicious drinks and genuine hospitality.”
The coffee shop is conveniently located on the Capital MetroRail line, catering to commuters with late evening hours and the opportunity for a happy hour cocktail before heading home, officials noted. The East Austin café joins the existing pair of Houndstooth Coffee shops located at 4200 N Lamar Blvd., Ste. 120 and 401 Congress Ave, Ste. 100C. Houndstooth Coffee also has three locations in Dallas.
