Austin Developer Purchases East Austin Industrial Campus

The developer is turning the campus into a data center.

Developer Chris Milam purchase the mostly vacant former Freescale Semiconductor Inc. campus in East Austin.

The 109-acre, 935,255-square-foot campus was purchased for an undisclosed price. Milam’s company, International Development Management, or IDM, will convert the campus into a data center and office space. Milam is putting a $100 million investment in the first phase of development.

According to Austin Business Journal, the Austin Energy substation provides 200 megawatts of power to the campus and Hewlett-Packard Co. provides fiber for the site. The project, called “MOS 8” consists of eight buildings and parking garages.

Construction crews have already began doing preliminary work onsite.
