Austin Home Builder Pays For East Austin School Lunches

Not wanting children to stress out about unpaid balances, Infill Builders wrote a $10,000 check for Blackshear Elementary lunch tab.

EAST AUSTIN, TX An Austin home builder paid off thousands of school lunches at an elementary school in East Austin this week.

Austin Infill Builders issued a $10,000 check to Austin ISD officials at lunchtime Tuesday to cover lunches at Blackshear Elementary in East Austin, Spectrum News Austin reported. The district said the amount will cover 3,400 lunches. Company officials said they want to ensure students don't have to stress out about having outstanding lunch balances, officials told the news station.

"No matter how amazing our schools are, no matter how dedicated and selfless the teachers are, if the students are hungry, they're not going to learn,” said Edward Ishmael of Austin Infill Builders, as quoted by Spectrum News.

Austin ISD said unpaid lunches cost the district about $350,000 a year.
