Austin Partners Up To Hand Out Ready-To-Eat Meals On Tuesday

The meals will be distributed from 1 to 6 p.m. in East Austin.

AUSTIN, TX — The City of Austin is partnering up with the Red Cross on Tuesday to distribute ready-to-eat meals and cases of water in East Austin.

The "Meals Ready to Eat," or MREs, are packaged meals that can be eaten without cooking or heating. They will be distributed from 1 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the Millennium Youth Complex at 1156 Hargrave Street, city officials said.

During the distribution, individuals will be given MREs and one case of water per pickup.

Officials have asked those who attend the distribution to observe coronavirus prevention protocols like social distancing and to wear a mask.

Central Texas Food Bank is also hosting a daily drive-thru food distribution at Del Valle High School from noon to 3 p.m. Food is also available to those without cars, according to the food bank.

The high school his located at 5201 Ross Road in Del Valle.

Austin ISD is also offering free meals to children 18-years-old and younger and to their caregivers. Click here for more information on Austin ISD's distribution. Children are not required to be Austin ISD students to collect food.

As it stands, food distribution are offered at Leander ISD, Austin ISD, Central Texas Food Bank, United Way, and Round Rock ISD.
