Austin Shelter For Women, Children Renovated And Expanded

Site provides shelter, case management, specialized counseling, childcare and educational services for single women among other services.

AUSTIN, TEXAS — The city's Public Health and Public Works departments have successfully completed renovation and expansion of the Austin Shelter for Women and Children, which includes a new residential wing and expanded child care facilities, officials said Wednesday.

The expanded facility, which is owned by Travis County, leased by the City of Austin and operated by The Salvation Army, provides continuous emergency shelter, case management, specialized counseling, childcare and educational services for single women and women with dependent children to help these individuals and families move from homelessness toward self-sufficiency.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony that will include tours of the updated facility is scheduled on Friday, Sept. 21, at 9:30 a.m. at the shelter located at 4613 Tannehill Lane. Austin and Travis County elected officials are expected to attend, along with representatives from the Salvation Army.
