East Austin Standoff Situation Ends Peacefully

A situation that brought out the Austin Police Department SWAT Team near Austin Community College Eastview on Wednesday evening ended peacefully.

Austin police asked students and staff at Austin Community College Eastview and surrounding areas to remain on lockdown on Wednesday afternoon after reports surfaced of a man threatening his life near the campus.

According to APD spokesperson Amanda Cole, the situation was near the intersection of Tillery and Neal Streets and started around 2:50 p.m. APD said there was an armed man in a field and there are evacuations in the area.

“We’ve asked those in the area to remain inside as the situation is handled,” Cole told Patch as negotiations with the man were taking place.

The situation ended just after 5:15 p.m. when the subject was safely taken into custody.
