Dog Dies In East Austin Apartment Fire

Blaze is believed to have been sparked in the kitchen of the second-floor unit located some 2/10th of a mile from a nearby fire station.

EAST AUSTIN, TX — A dog perished in an East Austin apartment fire Tuesday afternoon from which two human occupants were able to escape.

Officials said the incident occurred at around 2:30 p.m. along the 8400 block of Riverstone Drive, CBS Austin reported, near the spot where Decker and Loyola lanes intersect.

The fire is said to have been sparked in the kitchen of the second-floor unit. Ironically — or thankfully for the residents — Fire Station No. 26 at 6702 Wentworth Dr. is one minute away from the apartment where the blaze started, a mere 2/10th of a mile away.
