East Austin Fire Lit By Child Displaces Family Of 7
Fire crews responded to 907 Thompson St. on Sunday afternoon to find a second-story bedroom ablaze.
EAST AUSTIN, TEXAS — A family of seven is displaced following an East Austin apartment in East Austin that occurred on Sunday.
Firefighters responded to 907 Thompson St. at around 2:45 p.m., finding a fire had broken out in a second-story bedroom. The fire was quickly extinguished and no injuries were reported, but fire officials said two adults and five children were displaced in the unit later deemed uninhabitable.
The American Red Cross reportedly was assisting the family in finding alternative temporary lodging, fire officials said. Fire investigators later determined one of the children lit the fire, causing $50,000 in structure damage and another $10,000 to the contents of the apartment.
