East Austin Shooting Victim Identified

EAST AUSTIN, TX — AUSTIN, TX — Police have released more details related to Monday night's fatal shooting in East Austin.

Police responded to 2609 Rosewood Ave. on Monday, June 24, just before 8 p.m. amid reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, medics found a man with life-threatening injuries before transporting him to a local hospital for treatment of his wounds. The man died shortly after arrival, police said, and a suspect who was still at the scene was arrested.

On Tuesday, more details were released. Police have identified the deceased shooting victim as Bruce Wayne Washington, 47, whose time of death was 8:44 p.m. Police have identified the alleged shooter as 33-year-old Morris Jermaine-Shelton. He was taken into custody without incident at the shooting scene, police said.

Formal charges against Shelton are pending final autopsy by the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office later on Tuesday, police added.

AUSTIN, TX — A man was killed in an East Austin shooting on Monday evening, police said.

Austin-Travis County EMS medics said via Twitter they arrived at the 3600 block of Webberville Road just before 8 p.m. amid reports of a shooting, the location later specified by police as the Booker T. Washington Terrace apartments at 905 Bedford St.

Upon arrival, police found an adult male with a critical, life-threatening gunshot wounds before transporting him to Dell Seton Medical Center for treatment, but he died shortly after arrival.

A police officer who briefed reporters about the incident said a male suspect found at the shooting scene was in police custody as police treat the case as a homicide. It's unclear what led up to the shooting, the officer said, but added there was no lingering threat to the public in the shooting's aftermath.

Medics noted the man was the sole patient in the incident. No further details were released, including the man's age and identity.
