East Austin Wreck Prompts Lane Closures, Traffic Congestion
Crash at State Highway 71 at Wolf Lane left patient pinned to vehicle as path is cleared as makeshift landing pad for medical helicopter.

EAST AUSTIN, TEXAS — A traffic collision east of the city where a patient pinned to a vehicle was extricated from wreckage has caused significant traffic delays Tuesday afternoon
The incident occurred at Wolf Lane at East State Highway 71 eastbound. A STAR Flight medical helicopter was dispatched to the scene to transport a patient to Dell Seton Medical Center for treatment.
Numerous emergency personnel were on scene, and a large swath of area has been cleared to accommodate the helicopter's arrival. Officials urge motorists to avoid the area if possible as traffic congestion continues to mount during the afternoon rush hour.

The area had been cleared by early Tuesday evening, according to reports, but significant traffic backups continued.
UPDATE3 vehicle rescue Wolf Ln / E Sh 71 EB: Patient has been extricated & being treated & prepped for transfer to STARFlight. Helicopter is arriving on scene. Transport still planned for Dell Seton. Possibly 2 additional patients being evaluated. More information to follow.
