Houndstooth Coffee Gets Into The Spirit Of The Season In Austin

Popular stops among caffeine junkies, shops launch specialty drinks for fall and DJ pop-up events in East Austin steeped in funk and soul.

AUSTIN, TEXAS Houndstooth coffee shops are getting into the spirit of the season with specialty drinks and planned pop-up events, officials said Monday.

The chain is kicking off its fall season with a round of specialty drinks, including including the “Thanks-O-Latte” and “The Ginger Wood.” What exactly is the Thanks-O-Latte, you ask? The Thanks-O-Latte is 75 percent Houndstooth Latte, 25 percent actual pumpkin pie batter, that can also be made in iced coffee form.

The Ginger Wood, on the other hand, is a fall twist on Houndstooth’s signature Lime Iron — described as a spicy rendition of a summertime favorite. It's made with cold brew, maple syrup, extra spicy ginger beer and fresh squeezed lime juice.

Both specialty coffees will be available in October through the winter holidays, Houndstooth officials said. The Thanks-O-Latte will be available at all locations and The Ginger Wood will be available at all Austin locations and select Dallas locations.

Houndstooth is also offering special events programming at the newest location in East Austin at 2823 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd #101. DJ Champale will be spinning all vinyl funk and soul music from 9 p.m. until close every Saturday in October, and guests can enjoy drink specials while listening to the groovy sounds. Additionally, company officials said, the beloved Shhmaltz will be bringing back their fresh and unique all-vegan spins on Jewish deli classics at a pop-up at Houndstooth’s eastside location on Saturday, Oct. 6 from noon to 4 p.m.

The menu will feature the shop’s signature ‘Harvey P’ Reuben: a seitan ‘pastrami’ sliced thin and piled on grilled marble rye, topped with melted vegan cheese, fresh shredded cabbage and chipotle Russian dressing, and The Frankenthaler Falafel: a hearty falafel sandwich topped with tomato, cucumber, tahini dressing and served in a fluffy pita wrap.
