Man Killed In East Austin Rollover Crash Identified
Lance Christopher Smith, 35, was driving past MLK Boulevard when he ran a red light, crashing into a guardrail and dying at the scene.
AUSTIN, TX — Police have identified the driver who was killed after slamming into a guardrail in East Austin over the weekend.
The incident occurred at Bundyhill Drive and East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard just before 3 a.m. on June 2. Lance Christopher Smith, 35, was driving a blue, 2010 Nissan Altima traveling southbound on Bundyhill when police said he ran a stop sign at MLK Boulevard before crashing into a guardrail. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police noted an autopsy has been performed, but toxicology results are pending. An investigation into the crash continues, according to a police advisory.

Police said the incident marked Austin’s 34th fatal traffic crash of 2019, resulting in 35 fatalities this year. At this time in 2018, police added, there were 24 fatal traffic crashes and 25 traffic fatalities.
