Wanda Newsome, age 77, took yet another gold medal for archery in Birmingham this year at the National Senior Games. Her first was at age 65, not long after her beloved husband had passed away and her son had encouraged her to take up archery again to help her with her grief.
Not only has Wanda won medals, but she’s benefited enormously, she says, from the warmth and friendships she’s found through her participation in the Senior Games. A member of the “Texas Throwers,” for Wanda, it’s simple; archery is what she loves, and she’ll do it until the day she leaves this earth!
