Outdoor Art Gallery Coming To East Austin
The gallery will be The Lone Star State's largest earthen-built structure.
AUSTIN, TX — Austinites will soon have another avenue to enjoy art: HOPE Outdoor Gallery's newest location in East Austin.
The new outdoor gallery will be situated near the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on 17 acres, and it will include public art installations, interactive technology, educational programming, murals and audio exhibitions, the gallery said in a news release.
"Our new park will feed your soul, and keep your body nourished with offerings from coffee to cocktails and snacks that will appease any appetite. You can take in the view from the rooftop deck while enjoying the local flavors of Austin," the release reads.

According to the release, the gallery will be the state's largest earthen-built structure. The gallery's walls will be made of some 40,000 earth blocks, each weighing nearly 40 pounds. The earth material is a locally sourced renewable resource.
The earthen walls are designed to align with the gallery's theme: “THESE WALLS BRING US TOGETHER.”

“The outdoor gallery concept is utopian, not because every artist gets along, but because it yields diversity by providing an opportunity for those with creative drive and ingenuity rather than power and resources,” Shepard Fairey, graphic artist, activist and supporter of HOPE said in a statement. “Empowerment is infectious, and the electricity from a space like the HOPE Outdoor Gallery creates a chain reaction of excitement and participation. Whether one is there to take an art class, take part in a charity event, party, or paint a wall, there is no question that the HOPE Outdoor Gallery is a community incubator.”
The gallery is set to open during the summer of 2021. Renderings can be viewed online.
