Ramen Tatsu-Ya Coming To East Austin
Popular ramen shop with 2 existing local sites and another in Houston coming to East Austin this summer and our mouths are already watering.

EAST AUSTIN, TX — Officials of Ramen Tatsu-Ya announced on Tuesday the upcoming opening of a new ramen shop in East Austin this summer.
The new restaurant is located at 1600 East 6th Street. Like its up-and-running counterparts elsewhere, the new restaurant will offer its signature menu favorites — the Tonkotsu Original, with pork bone broth, chashu, ajitama, wood ear mushrooms, and scallions; Mi-So-Hot with pork bone broth, miso blend, goma pork, ajitama, scallion, napa cabbage, bean sprout, corn, and their house made spicy bomb.
“We’re super stoked to be opening a ramen shop on the East side," chef/owner Tatsu Aikawa said in a prepared statement. "Slurp on, tune in, drop out. Come get your ramen trip on.”

If you were struck by the hip nomenclature and use of colloquialisms in Aikawa's prepared statement as we were, there's a good reason for it. Before launching Ramen Tatsu-Ya with chef Takuya Matsumoto and younger brother Shion Aikawa in the fall of 2012, the duo met over a decade before when they were hip-hop DJS. These are multi-talented individuals with culinary prowess to boot.

Along with the aforementioned signature items, the new spot also will feature small bites such as Sweet & Sour Yodas and Munchie Katsu Sliders, side items, and desserts. Moreover, in addition to beer, wine, sake, and sake cocktails, the new East Austin location will introduce craft cocktails helmed by Beverage Director Michael Phillips. Also new to this location will be extended late night hours on Friday and Saturday, catering to the surrounding neighborhood’s bustling nightlife.
With the original building design by A Parallel Architecture, Ramen Tatsu-Ya is again working with long-time collaborator McCray & Co., the Austin-based design studio responsible for the Ramen Tatsu-Ya restaurants in Austin and Houston and Kemuri Tatsu-Ya, officials said.
"Following the footsteps of the current shops with the design intent of traditional Japanese ramen meets Austin culture, the new location will feature murals by renowned Tokyo street graffiti artist ESOW, who previously contributed works at Kemuri Tatsu-Ya and Ramen Tatsu-Ya Houston," restaurant officials added. "Additional artwork by Xavier Walker, Ross Loftin, and Mila Sketch will also be featured in the space."
A note for job seekers: Ramen Tatsu-Ya is actively hiring for staff to join the restaurant opening team. Interested applicants can learn more and apply at workpop.com/careers/tatsuya.
The East Austin shop will join the two existing Austin locations at 8557 Research Blvd. #126 and 1234 S Lamar Blvd. and a location in Houston at 1722 California St. For more information, visit www.ramen-tatsuya.com or follow on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
ABOUT TATSU-YA (provided text):
In fall 2012, Chef Tatsu Aikawa started Ramen Tatsu-Ya with Chef Takuya Matsumoto and younger brother Shion Aikawa. The duo first met over 10 years ago as hip-hop DJs and they remained friends as their lives followed a similar path as sushi chefs. After spending some time at the Michelin-starred kaiseki/sushi bar Urasawa in Los Angeles, Aikawa decided to return to Austin in the pursuit of introducing authentic Japanese ramen to Texas. With the help of friends and family, Ramen Tatsu-Ya became a reality and soon after opening, the shop quickly became a local sensation boasting national accolades, including Bon Appétit’s “Top 50 Best Restaurants.” Ramen Tatsu-Ya currently has two locations in Austin and one in Houston, with a location coming soon to East Austin. The group also recently opened Kemuri Tatsu-Ya, a Texas izakaya that has received national recognition from The James Beard Foundation as well as the honor of being named one of the Top 10 Best New Restaurants in the U.S. by Food & Wine, Bon Appétit, GQ, and more.
