Teen Dies In East Austin Car Crash

Boy was pronounced dead at the scene and a woman in her 30s critically injured after car slams into pole at Springdale Road/Rogge Lane.

AUSTIN, TEXAS — A teenager died and a woman sustained critical injuries following a Saturday afternoon crash in East Austin.

Austin-Travis County EMS medics conveyed details of the collision on Twitter. Medics were dispatched to the corner of Springdale Road and Rogge Lane just before 1 p.m., where a car with three passengers crashed into a telephone pole.

A teenage boy died at the scene, medics said. A woman in her 30s who suffered critical, life-threatening injuries and an infant were transported to Dell Seton Medical Center for treatment, police said. The young victim who died was 13 years old, according to reports.

The intersection at Springdale Road and Rogge Lane was closed to accommodate a police investigation and for cleanup from road crews, causing traffic delays. The cause of the crash is unknown, but sleet-induced icy patches were reported throughout the region Friday night as temperatures dipped to near freezing. One such accident occurred in Williamson County overnight, leaving two people with critical injuries in a collision involving at least 10 vehicles.
