Jorge Rivera is a Paramedic student at El Paso Community College (EPCC) who is getting real life training at the EPCC COVID 19 Vaccine Clinic. Every Friday, Rivera and other students are assisting in vaccinating any individual ages 12 years and older at the Mission del Paso Campus, 10700 Gateway East, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Rivera, an Eastwood High School graduate, is gaining experience in his field during a period where not even textbooks were made to explain how to face COVID 19. “This pandemic has taken a toll on us mentally," Rivera said. “We couldn't see family members, go outside and experience the world, and some of us were locked in our houses for who knows how long. For me, a student, it is an honor to participate in this immunization clinic."

Rivera is thankful and delighted to help others start “seeing the light at the end of the tunnel" and hopes that soon everything goes back to normal. Rivera's plans are to become a Paramedic instructor at EPCC, “I want to teach the next generation of paramedics and give them an insight of what it truly takes to become a paramedic, also give them a few tips and tricks that a textbook doesn't really provide," Rivera said. “I believe it's important to participate in the immunization clinic because it's not only a learning experience for us students but we're giving back to a community that has given us a lot."
