El Paso Community College (EPCC) will be hosting a virtual Spring 2021 commencement ceremony. The ceremony will premiere on Saturday, May 22 at 6:00 p.m. on EPCC TV (channel 13.2 or Spectrum Cable 1301), the EPCC website, and the EPCC YouTube channel.

EPCC President Dr. William Serrata says graduation is one of the most cherished rites of passage. “Despite the challenges of the past year, our graduates have shown that with hard work and perseverance goals can be accomplished even in the most challenging of circumstances," Serrata said. “We look forward to celebrating this important milestone with our students."

After much consideration, the college made the difficult decision to once again hold virtual commencement ceremonies due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We understand that students have imagined crossing the stage and being presented with their degree at an in-person graduation ceremony, but safety must remain a priority. While the health outlook for our community is improving and vaccination rates are on the increase, we still have not reached a point where we can safely bring thousands of students and their families together. This is disappointing for all of us, but the difficult decision was made in the best interest of each of our graduates, their friends and family and our entire community.
Dr. Cassandra Lachica-Chavez, Executive Director of Admissions and Registration says Spring 2021 commencement candidates will receive an email with instructions about how they can be recognized with an official slide with a photo and have their name read during the virtual ceremony. “Since there are no capacity limits on a virtual event, this special celebration will allow students to share this moment with their family and friends—near or far, as well as the community," Lachica-Chavez said.
