Gruesome Details Emerge Regarding Officer Accused Of Beating Boy
The accused, Carlos Ricardo Mendez, an El Paso police officer, has been relieved of duty.

EL PASO, TX — By the time the 4-month-old boy was brought into the hospital, the "child had so much blood in his stomach the child would have died from the injuries" if he wasn't taken to the hospital. These grim details were provided in a police report Sept. 13 charging the boy's father, Carlos Ricardo Mendez, an El Paso police officer, with injury to a child/intent serious bodily injury, according to the documents obtained by Patch.
A radiologist at El Paso Children's Hospital claims the boy had sustained a traumatic incident to the belly that was caused by a punch or kick by an adult, the documents state. As a result, the boy had rib fractures and a large amount of blood in his stomach due to a liver tear.
Mendez claims the injuries to the baby occurred after his other child, a 2-year-old, was found on top of him, El Paso Times reported. Mendez was booked into El Paso County Jail Sept. 14. He was released that day after posting $50,000 bond. Mendez is currently relieved of duty from the El Paso Police Department, where he has worked five years, the Times added.
