AIDS Walk Houston Takes Over Downtown This Sunday

More than 10,000 people are expected to gather in Sam Houston Park and raise $500,000 for HIV care and services.

HOUSTON, TX — It's marking its 28th anniversary, and this year's AIDS Walk Houston promises to be the biggest yet.

More than 10,000 people are expected to journey to Sam Houston Park downtown on Sunday, March 5, beginning at 12 p.m., to remember loved ones lost to the disease and support those living with it. Mayor Sylvester Turner will officially start the walk at 1 p.m.

Walk organizers have set a fundraising goal of $500,000, which will benefit a variety of agencies in the Houston area, including AIDS Foundation Houston, Fundación Latinoamericana de Acción Social, Resurrection Metropolitan Community Church, and the University of Houston LGBTQ Resource Center.

The 5K walk is designed to support the nearly 30,000 people in the Houston area living with HIV/AIDS, and all money raised goes toward counseling, medical care, and housing and food aid, month other services.

Food trucks will be set up at the park, and entertainment will also be in the mix.
