Dick's Sporting Goods Opens In Galleria Area

The opening is part of an ongoing expansion in Houston to fill void left by Sports Authority.

HOUSTON, TX — The Dick's Sporting Goods expansion into the greater Houston area continued with its Galleria-area opening at 2131 Post Oak Blvd. on Friday, just in time for tax-free weekend shopping.

The sporting goods store is competing with Academy Sports + Outdoors to fill the void of recently-departed Sports Authority. The opening is part of Dick's Sporting Goods' launch of five new stores nationwide within the last week, including one in the Dallas-Fort Worth suburb Prosper.

"We look forward to celebrating the grand opening of five new stores in three different states," said Lauren Hobart, President, Dick's Sporting Goods. "Having a presence in these cities will allow us to better-serve the athletes and outdoor enthusiasts who live there. We hope the community joins us for the celebrations that we have planned."

Dick's is also hiring about 50 full-time and part-time associate positions for its newest location in Westlake Marketplace at 14359 E. Sam Houston Parkway, which is expected to open in September.
