Forbes Billionaires List 2017: Houston Is Home To 13 Tycoons

Texas boasts 50 individuals on the annual kingpin roster, and oil, gas, and pipelines are still the biggest games in town.

The price of oil might be down today, but Houston maintained its billionaire bragging rights number this year, according to Forbes, whose "The World's Billionaires" list for 2017 found that the Bayou City is home to 13 super-wealthy individuals, the same number that made the 2016 version of the list.

Texas is the place of residence for 50 billionaires on the list, and the Dallas-Ft. Worth area boasts 22.

The wealthiest person in Texas, according to the list, is Alice Walton, 67, heir of Walmart founder Sam Walton, who has a net worth of $33.8 billion. Houston's top billionaire is Richard Kinder, 72, the founder and executive chairman of Kinder Morgan. He's worth $7.2 billion. Of the 20 wealthiest people in Texas, more than half became wealthy from the oil, gas, or pipeline industry.
