Fortune 500 2017: See How Texas Companies Rank On The List
Walmart and Apple play major roles on this year's edition, but where is Exxon Mobil?

Fortune is out with its trademark Fortune 500 list for 2017, and Texas-based companies are represented well on the list, contributing 92 firms to the roster. The complete lineup of 500 companies represents a whopping two-thirds of the United States GDP.
Companies are ranked by total revenues; topping the list nationally is Walmart, followed by Berkshire Hathaway and Apple. Walmart is also the largest employer on the list, with 2.3 million employees, and Apple is the most profitable company.
While 15 companies dropped off the roster, there were 20 newcomers on the list, including Elon Musk’s Tesla. Other than clearing the bar of at least $5.1 billion in annual revenues, Fortune explains how newcomers make it on the list.
The 2017 rankings include 32 female CEOs, which Fortune says is the highest number of female executives to ever make the buzzed-about
