A Galleria Jewelry Institution is Closing Its Doors Forever
Houston's Wexler Jewelry, in business for 97 years, to serve its final customer on December 31

It's one of Texas' oldest independent jewelry stores, and it's catered to thousands of loyal customers over the years since it opened, in 1919, but Dan Wexler, president of Wexler Jewelry, said he'll turn the key in the door one final time on Saturday, bringing an era to a close.
"I'm getting old," Wexler, 69, told the Houston Business Journal. Wexler said that he was open to doing some consulting in his retirement from the family business. “I don’t really have a plan per se," he said. "I think it’ll be a learning experience for me.”
James Wexler moved to the U.S. from Poland, and had intended to settle in Austin, but a mixup landed him in Houston. He married Sarah, and the couple began doing business downtown. They eventually set up shop at the store's current location on West Gray in River Oaks Plaza.
