Galleria's Zone d'Erotica Store Up For Lease, To Relief Of Many

It's an incongruous landmark in upscale area, a symbol of Houston's lack of zoning laws, and it might be closing.

HOUSTON, TX — You can't miss it. The big blue roof emblazoned with the tacky name: Zone d'Erotica. It's a store that sells sex toys and videos and lingerie, among other adult novelties, and it's been used to demonstrate Houston's, shall we say, adventurous zoning laws.

For more than a decade, it has sat at the edge of the upscale Galleria area; luxurious residential buildings and designer boutiques are its neighbors. Is it an eyesore? Perhaps? Does it belong there? The answer depends on whom you ask. What is known, however, is that it might be a thing of the past.

Swamplot reports that the building is up for lease, and a Zone 'dErotica representative confirmed the news. The store does own the land that the building occupies, and a representative from The Retail Connection, the brokerage advertising the lease said only that the site is not for sale.

"We are under confidentiality to not discuss the site. It's not for sale, though," the representative told the Houston Chronicle.

What could take the adult store's place if Zone d'Erotika closes down? Previous occupants included a tobacco store, Luke's Hamburgers, and a Shell gas station.

Zone d'Erotika did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
