Real Estate
Home Of Heart-Transplant Pioneer Can Be Yours For $4,499,000
The late Denton Cooley's Houston estate is for sale, and it's waiting for the right family.
HOUSTON, TX — He is a luminary in world medical history, the first doctor to perform a successful heart transplant in the U.S. and the first in the world to implant an artificial heart in a human. His name was Dr. Denton Cooley, and you can own the River Oaks manor that belonged to the late physician and his deceased wife.
Cooley oversaw close to 110,000 open-heart procedures during his career, and retired in 2006. He and his wife passed away in 2016, weeks apart; he was 96, and she was 92.
They lived in the River Oaks home for 54 years. It was built in 1948, with a second story designed by prominent architect John Staub. Suffice to say, this home is full of history, and owning it is akin to keeping a legacy alive.
