Houston City Club's Demise Means End Of 128 Jobs
Greenway-based fitness and tennis center will be replaced by Life Time Fitness.

The staff at The Houston City Club found out this month that they would be losing their jobs, because their workplace is scheduled to close on June 12. The news affects 128 employees, according to information replayed to the Texas Workforce Commission.
The club, located at 1 City Club Drive in Greenway Plaza, is making way for a Life Time Fitness, a Minnesota-based chain that has signed a 20-year lease on the property. Life Time locations feature spas, cafes, day care centers and other amenities that make them popular with young professionals and customers with young children.

The company plans to renovate the Greenway facilities and convert it into a so-called large-format property; it will comprise 89,000 square feet of space. An opening date has not been announced.
Life Time operates 123 centers in 26 states and 35 major markets across the United States and Canada. The company has, as reported by the Houston Chronicle, assumed operations at the Galleria Tennis & Athletic Club in the Galleria mall.
