Houston Father's Plea For Help With Sons' Insulin Goes National

HOUSTON, TX — Ask, and you shall receive, the saying goes, and for one father here dealing with his three sons' medical issues, it's ringing true in a miraculous manner.

Craig Boncler, who owns Sicily Pizza and Pasta, has three boys — Michael, 16, Christopher, 12, and 10-year-old Timothy — and they all must have daily insulin injections for Type 1 diabetes, an incurable but treatable disease. Boncler's restaurant has not been doing well lately, and he's had trouble affording those life-saving injections, so earlier this week he decided to share his story on Facebook and perhaps garner some business for his eatery.

What happened has been nothing less than spectacular. Tens of thousands of people have clicked on and read his story, it's been shared thousands of time on Facebook and other platforms, and individuals from all over the country are responding, including Houstonians, who are lining up by the hundreds at his restaurant daily to eat pizza and help the family.

"I figured maybe I’d get a handful of orders from my friends around here telling people, 'Hey, call him up, place an order," Boncler told KHOU. "I don’t know how to deal with it right now and processing it all."

Construction near Boncler's restaurant has not been kind to business, but the father's outlook looks much brighter now. A YouCaring account established for the family has amassed $16,640 toward its $50,000 goal, and a GoFundMe campaign has raised nearly $7,000 as of Friday. Not to mention all those customers. He's had to put out a call for fill-in pizza makers, and might even add some positions at his restaurant because of the demand.
