Houston ISD Closed Friday For Astros Parade, Celebration
Field trips canceled, all athletic events still on as scheduled

HOUSTON, TX — The Houston ISD will be closed Friday, Nov. 3, to allow students and staff to enjoy the festivities and parade to celebrate the World Series Champion Houston Astros.
"Our hometown heroes are World Series Champions for the first time in franchise history," HISD Superintendent Richard Carranza said. "This is a memorable moment for our city and a time to celebrate, especially after the challenges Houston has faced over the past several months."
The City of Houston announced a celebration parade for the world champion Houston Astros to be held Friday afternoon downtown. They asked fans to turn the town orange, but also dress comfortably and bring water.

The parade will begin at 2 p.m. at Smith and Lamar streets. It will move north on Smith Street, east on Walker Street, south on Milam Street, west on Pease Street, north on Smith Street again and end at Lamar Street. The final celebration will take place at City Hall.

The parade staging area between Smith and I-45 underpass on outbound Allen Parkway will close to traffic at noon. Allen Parkway inbound at Taft will be closed at 1 p.m. The McKinney exit off 1-45 South will be closed at 1 p.m., and the Allen Parkway exit off I-45 South will remain open.
"This is the biggest day in a long time for Houston sports fans," Board of Education President Wanda Adams said. "We are excited to celebrate with the team and the city, and we want to give our HISD family the opportunity to be a part of this special moment."
In anticipation of the massive traffic issues expected as a result from the celebration, the closure will include all HISD schools, facilities, and administrative offices.
All athletic events scheduled for Friday evening will take place as scheduled. All field trips scheduled for Friday will be canceled. Students will not be required to make up the day.
