Sexual Misconduct At Kinkaid: A Decades-Long Secret

The prestigious Kinkaid School is investigating allegations of sexual misconduct dating back at least 50 years.

HOUSTON, TX — For more than a century, the Kinkaid School has been associated with high academic standards that prepare students for life in the college world.

But for decades, there's been a secret that's only begun to come to light.

A dark secret involving sexual misconduct among faculty members and students that dates back at least 50 years.

It's a tale one would expect to see or hear about in public schools, but not Kinkaid, a college preparatory campus that's been a fixture in the Bayou City since 1906.

On Wednesday, the story broke on the NBC affiliate that four former faculty members were under investigation for sexual misconduct that took place at the school in the 1960s through the 1990s.

Kinkaid sent a letter home to parents that spelled out the details of their investigation.

"Over the course of the last several months, we were made aware of a concern regarding sexual misconduct by a teacher toward students that took place several decades ago," the letter said in part.

After finding flaws in how these issues may have been handled in the past, Kinkaid;s Board of Trustees appointed a committee to work with a law firm for guidance and a third party investigator to examine student alumni concerns.

The committee, which was at the time investigating just one former faculty member, learned that at least three others may have engaged in sexual misconduct while on staff.

"Although we cannot change the past, we can offer our commitment of assistance to anyone who has been the victim of sexual misconduct during their time at Kinkaid," the letter said.

The committee is urging anyone who was at the school during that time period, or who may have knowledge of sexual misconduct at the school at any time, to contact their investigators at (646) 445-7544.
