USDA Chicken Recall: OK Foods Products Could Have Metal Contamination

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — Over 900,000 pounds of breaded chicken products that may possibly be contaminated with metal have been recalled by OK Foods, the USDA's food safety and inspection service said in a news release.

The ready-to-eat breaded chicken items were produced at various times from Dec. 19, 2016 through March 7, 2017. The products subject to recall bear establishment number “P-7092” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations and institutions nationwide.

According to the FSIS, the problem was discovered March 21 after OK Foods received five consumer complaints that metal objects were found in the chicken products.

"After an internal investigation, the firm identified the affected product and determined that the objects in all the complaints came from metal conveyor belting," the FSIS said.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions to anyone who may have consumed the products. The FSIS says the products should not be consumed and consumers should either throw them away or return them.

The recalls has been classified as a Class I recall. According to FSIS, a Class I recall means there is a "health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death."
