Astros-Dodgers Game 6 Ratings Best Since 2009
Houston led all markets with a 40.8 rating; Tonight's Game 7 could be difficult to match last year's Game 7

HOUSTON, TX — The skeptics who wanted to see the Yankees and Dodgers in the World Series probably never saw this coming. The high drama of the 2017 World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros has brought fantastic TV ratings, including Tuesday's Game 6 win by the Dodgers that was the best for a Game 6 since 2009 when the Yankees played the Philadelphia Phillies.
Game 6 Tuesday — a 3-1 win by the Dodgers to even the Series at 3-3 — drew an overnight rating of 15.1, per Austin Karp of Sports Business Daily. It was the best since 2009 when that series drew a 15.5 overnight rating. Last year's Cubs-Indians Game 6 drew just 14.8 in the ratings. Houston led all markets last night with a 40.8 rating.
Regardless, what was once considered a hapless series between unheralded Houston and powerhouse Los Angeles Dodgers has turned into a gold mine for Fox. Though Tuesday's final rating numbers haven't been released, they're expected to be between 23-25 million viewers. In contrast, last year's Cubs-Indians Game 6 was watched by 23.4 million viewers, according to Sports Illustrated.

That said, it may be difficult for tonight's Game 7 in Los Angeles to top last year's Game 7, where many folks around the country tuned in on a Wednesday night to see if the Cubs could break their 108-year World Series drought. The Cubs prevailed, 8-7, in 10 innings for win. That game drew 40.04 million viewers. Experts predict tonight's Game 7 could draw upwards of 35 million viewers, but can't see the final mark topping last year's 40 million.

“I’m thinking around 37 million viewers for Game 7,” Karp foreshadowed. “Short of Cubs-Indians [40 million]. So maybe around a 20.0 final rating tonight.”
Last night's Game 6 also delivered Fox its best primetime rating since broadcasting Super Bowl LI in Houston.
