Bellaire And Heights To Battle It Out Tonight

Cardinals and Bulldogs both look to stay unbeaten in District 18-6A; Kickoff at 7 p.m. at Delmar Stadium

HOUSTON, TX — Delmar Stadium will rock tonight as the Bellaire Cardinals meet the crosstown rival Heights Bulldogs in a clash of teams undefeated in District 18-6A. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., with Heights the designated home team.

Bellaire (2-1), whose only loss was a non-district affair to La Porte, defeated Chavez, 42-16, last week in the district opener. Heights (3-0) beat Houston Math, Science & Technology, 68-7. Heights had non-district wins over Clear Creek and Katy Tompkins.

Heights has operated a balanced attack on offense with 217.7 yards rushing and 243 yards passing per game. Junior running back E'munn Parker has 248 yards and a pair of rushing touchdowns while senior Jalen Green has 201 yards and two scores. Green is averaging 11.8 yards per carry. Junior quarterback Mark Castro has completed nearly 71 percent of his passes for 532 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions. Senior Jacoby Hopkins leads the team with 312 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Bellaire quarterback Darion Manning leads the team in both rushing and passing. The senior has completed 68 percent of his passes for 633 yards and eight touchdowns, and he's rushed for 194 yards and one score. The Cardinals have four receivers who have more than 100 yards and a touchdown, including Christian Wise (192 yds, 3 TD), Jarvis Howard (159 yds, 1 TD), Jahnari Ball (147 yds, 3 TD) and Jaqualin Franks (146 yds, 2 TD).

The winner of tonight's game remains in first place in 18-6A while the other still has playoff chances as the top four teams from the district will advance to the postseason.

Next week Bellaire will host Houston on Thursday at Butler Stadium. Heights will travel to Westbury on Friday at Butler Stadium. Belier and Heights each missed the first two games of the season because of cancellations from the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
