Celebration Honors Mississippi Native in Her Hometown
One of Greenville's favorite daughters was just honored in a huge way. Kent receives a trio of achievement awards and is given her own day.

Germany Kent was the guest of honor at a reception where dozens of spectators came together to recognize the Greenville Mississippi native.
The ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Eta Theta Omega Chapter and the Les Modernettes Social Club co-hosted a homecoming celebration event Tuesday at the William Alexander Percy Memorial Library in Greenville.
The celebration was a public acknowledgement of the many successes Kent has had in her distinguished career. Kent, also well known locally by her birth name Evelyn LaShawn Palmer, was showered with gifts and awards.

The beloved influential media personality, who is an actress, producer, hope guru, entertainment journalist, social activist, and philanthropist was welcomed home by her closest friends, family, and dignitaries.
Kent was given one of the highest honors bestowed upon a civilian when she was awarded her own day.

The Honorable Mayor Errick D. Simmons presented Kent with a proclamation on behalf of the city proclaiming June 20, 2017, as “Germany Kent Day” in the City of Greenville.
During the celebration, Kent received a “Lifetime Community Service Award” from the Eta Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, which was presented by the Chapter’s president Mary Hardy.
The prestigious Les Modernettes Social Club honored Kent with a “Legacy Award,” which was presented by Betty Coleman. Kent’s late grandmother, Evelyn R. Palmer, was one of the original founders of the organization. Les Modernettes president Dr. Elmertha Burton was in attendance, as well as other elected city officials and prominent community leaders.
Kent recently received a "Global Philanthropy Award" from Empower Magazine and was recently named the "Humanitarian of the Year" award recipient by Kidz Rock Awards.
