Congestion Central: Houston Roadway Most Congested In Texas

HOUSTON, TX — If you live in Houston and listen to local radio or watch local TV stations, you can't get away from hearing about traffic in the Houston area. In fact, it is one of the city's claims to fame. Live here long enough, and you'd do well to become an expert on navigating "backroads" that steer you clear of the highways in the region.

I ask your forgiveness in advance, but there's a nugget of news that further demonstrates that the Bayou City is Traffic Hell: Houston is home to Texas' most congested stretch of highway. In fact, according to the Texas Department of Transportation, 44 of the state's most congested stretches of road are located in the Houston area.

Want to know what's number one? That would be Interstate 610 between I-10 and Highway 59, the Galleria-area territory that most hours of the day qualifies as not much more than a parking lot.

That's right, Harris County has six entries on TxDot's Top 10 Congested Roadways list.
