Damn: The Original Beaver's Is Taking The Summer Off

Owners say spot will reopen in the fall "rejuvenated and ready to celebrate 10 years of serving Houston diners Dam Good Food and cocktails."

HOUSTON, TX — If you were planning to meet some friends at the original Beavers today for some beers and food, you're out of luck. The Washington corridor-area institution is taking the summer off, according to a press release from the owners.

If you want a Beaver's fix, the location on Westheimer will be open through the summer, and the owners of the popular spots have stated that the original location will be open in the fall "rejuvenated and ready to celebrate 10 years of serving Houston diners Dam Good Food and cocktails."

Perhaps some renovations are planned, and, as reported in the Houston Chronicle, barbecue might be in the mix come September:

One good guess could have something to do with the directions of the new Beaver's Westheimer, which opened in January. Since opening, chef Arash Kharat has been polishing his pitmaster skills and amped up the barbecue program. Barbecue enthusiasts now consider Beaver's Westheimer among the city's barbecue destinations even though it's not strictly a barbecue restaurant. (The Chron's barbecue columnist J.C. Reid wrote recently that Kharat is now doing barbecue "up to par with Houston's best smoked-meat purveyors.")

This tasty video will have to suffice until the original Beaver's reopens:
