Houston Police Chief: Be Careful On Unexpected Packages

After multiple explosions and a fatality in Austin today, officials ask residents to be vigilant.

HOUSTON, TX — After two separate packages exploded today in Austin killing a juvenile and injuring others, officials from around the state are on high alert and warning residents to be careful. Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo sent a message through Twitter to anyone following him, specifically Houstonians.

"In light of the 3 incidents in Austin, please be vigilant when receiving any package you weren’t expecting. If you receive a suspicious package call 911 and do not handle it," the chief wrote.

Earlier today in East Austin, a 17-year-old died and a woman in her 40's was injured by a blast that occurred Monday along the 4800 block of Oldfort Hill Drive at 6:44 a.m.
