Heights Farmers Market To Be Upgraded If Purchased
The long-standing farmers market is set to be purchased and upgraded, potentially seeing additions of a brewery and live music on weekends.

HOUSTON HEIGHTS, TX -- The farmers' market on Airline could see new upgrades coming. The company set to buy the market, MLB Capital Partners, anticipates making some big changes to the 18-acre market. Todd Mason of MLB Capital Partners said "we'll have some exciting announcements."
The deal to purchase the market is not yet set in stone, but there are certain upgrade ideas being bounced around. The market could be expanded along with parking areas and the potential new owners may add more food services and events.
The buyers have considered adding meat shops, a bakery and perhaps a brewery, according to the Houston Chronicle. Additional attractions could include live music and culinary events on weekends.

Kevin Kleb, a manager of the market in the Farmers Marketing Association, noted the decline in young farmers coming in to sell their goods. "Through the years there have been a few young farmers come aboard, but that's pretty much stopped," he said.
The decline in Houston farming comes from the high value of farmers' land and a growing trend towards non-locally grown produce due to price differences, in some cases, according to a USDA report.
