Heights Restaurant Fire Ruled Accident: Houston Fire Dept.

Southern Goods sustains $30,000 in damage from blaze that ignited late Sunday night

HOUSTON, TX — Houston firefighters responded to a call at Souther Goods restaurant late Sunday night and extinguished the flames and smoke by early Monday morning. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from the back of the restaurant. The restaurant was closed at the time, and the fire was contained to the kitchen area with no extension to other rooms or the attic. There were no injuries from the fire.

The fire was declared under control at 12:04 a.m. Although, the fire appeared to have started around the ice machine, firefighters were unable to determine the cause, so HFD Arson investigators were requested. The arson squad deemed the fire was an accident.

Souther Goods, which specializes in high-end southern dishes, is located at 632 W. 19th Street in The Heights. The estimated damage to the restaurant was $30,000, according to the City of Houston.
