Houston Bar Hauled In $745,000 During Super Bowl Weekend

Football bonus: Underdogs Sports Pub made enough to cover its expenses for three years.

HOUSTON, TX — Talk about the benefits of hosting the Super Bowl. Underdogs Sports Pub, a bar on Washing Avenue in the Heights, sold enough alcohol during Super Bowl weekend to cover its expenses for the next three years. That comes to about $745,000.

Overall in Houston, about $115 million in mixed alcohol sales were recorded in February, compared to 2016's $101 million in the same month.

Dustin Evans, who owns Underdogs, said that his bottom line was boosted in part because his business supplied alcohol for several Super Bowl-related events and venues during the Super Bowl festivities, including Club Nomad. Evans told the Houston Business Journal that he planned to invest his proceeds in his pub and might open another venture.

"We're not a flashy bar or anything like that," Evans said. "We'll probably go back to what we were doing."

Other restaurants and bars that scored big during the football weekend included B&B Butchers, Steak 48, and Pappas Bros. Steakhouse.
