Kinder Institute Study: Houston More Pro-Immigrant, Pro-Gay Than Expected
The survey found that Harris County residents, despite the political and media climate, believe immigrants give more than they take.

HOUSTON, TX -- The 2017 Kinder Institute study results are in, revealing some interesting results regarding sentiment toward immigrants, and gay rights.
The study revealed that since 2010 there has been an 18 percent increase in the belief that immigrants contribute more to the American economy than they take, as well as a trend that Houstonians are more accepting of gay rights in the counties surveyed.
The counties of Fort Bend and Mongomery made up for just under half of the survey sample with about 400 respondents in each county, while the bulk of the survey population was conducted in Harris County, with over 800 respondents.

Immigrants: Between 2010 and 2016, Harris County residents' opinion that immigrants "contribute more to the American economy than they take," jumped from 45 percent to 63 percent, according to the survey.
Also, 79 percent of those surveyed said they support a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants who speak English, and have no criminal record.

Gay Rights: Support for gay rights has risen modestly in the surveyed counties over the years, with 56 percent of those surveyed believe=ing that homosexuality is morally acceptable, up from 35 percent in 2010.
Additionally, 47 percent of respondents believe that homosexuality can be changed, down from 62 percent in 2010.
