Officials Encourage Residents To Get Flood Insurance

If flood insurance is purchased today, the policy would go into effect on June 1, the day hurricane season starts.

HOUSTON, TX — It may not seem like it, but hurricane season is right around the corner. June 1 marks the beginning of the six-month season, and local officials encourage all residents to purchase flood insurance for their homes and businesses.

This can be done through the National Flood Insurance Program, with more information at www.floodsmart.gov.

The required 30-day wait period starts on the day of purchase. If purchased today, the policy would go into effect on June 1, 2018 — the day hurricane season starts.
