Train Crash In Heights: 2 Vehicles Intentionally Left On Tracks

A Union Pacific engineer said he struck two cars that were parked on the track at Parker, near Washington and Shepherd, early this morning.

HOUSTON, TX — A Union Pacific train smashed two vehicles parked on the train tracks near The Heights early Thursday morning. The Houston Police Department said it happened around 4 a.m. on the train track at Parker near Washington and Shepherd. The vehicles are believed to be stolen.

There was no one in either vehicle parked on the tracks and there are no reports of injuries. Police say a silver car and a red SUV were the two vehicles parked on the tracks. One vehicle belongs to a nearby bar owner, who claims his vehicle was stolen.

Several crossings were blocked off since then, including Heights Boulevard and many other smaller crossings in the area, for 2-3 hours.

The first call to 9-1-1 came from the engineer reporting the crash, and a second call came from a man who said two men stole his vehicle from Pluckers restaurant and drove down Parker, leaving the car on the tracks.

Union Pacific sent inspectors to the scene in an effort to see if the train can be moved.
